Email is definitely not dead. As most you may know by now, I’m a big fan of marketing in the year that we live in. And so, email remains to be a very killer opportunity.

Email is a channel that you can control without being at the mercy of all these other platforms that are out there. But, we also can’t be naive to the changes have been made, such as the promotions tabs that GMail implemented recently. Sure, email is falling off and these changes have caused us to lose touch with some email lists that we may have been paying attention to prior, but it’s still very much in play so long as we leverage it wisely.

Are open rates at 90% like I had in 1997? Absolutely not. But, I still believe email is very much something to be considered. There’s no question that email will certainly be less valuable in 3-5 years. Heard me say marketers ruin everything? That’s where this fits in perfectly. That’s what this is all about. Platforms come along. They present value. And marketings pounce on the opportunity to arbitrage against their audiences.

But, while us marketers are working to exploit and potentially ruin email marketing, we’re still in a time where it should most definitely be considered as part of any business’s strategy.

  1. #QOTD: What do you think of GaryVaynerchuk.com? Questions, comments, concerns? What’s your $.02?
I don't go there. I use Gmail, Youtube, Amazon, and Google for 90% of all my online doings. I usually facebook for about 5 minutes a day. However… when I have specific agendas I will seek out specific sites for a long term 2 – 3 day use. That being said I like GaryVaynerchuk.com from a usability standpoint. It is well organized and laid out well. I did search for something once and it didnt get me to where I wanted. But maybe my searchfoo skills were off that day.

If I find a site as unusable(usually due to too many Ads…bloody marketers…. or due to a poor layout), I click off of it within seconds and make mental notes to never go there again.

  2. #QOTD: gv.com has good content, but I find the layout too busy for my liking.  I prefer far more plain.  One reason Medium is appealing is because of its clean interface.  gv.com feels like a highway littered with billboards.  again, the content behind the billboards is good.

  3. QOTD: Lots going on there.  Glad ur breaking up each of your daily events.  How do you make those comments about Beyonce in your "put a ring on it" and not crack up?
I like the shorter #AGV shows.  Allows me to catchup faster.  🙂  I'm just me in my company, a single mom, and well…hustle has been my life for as long as I can remember.  I appreciate the fact you respectfully answered the question with no smarcasm ;-).

  4. QOTD: For VaynerMedia customers to find out who you are, it perfectly displays that you "get it", that you have a huge audience, and that you're "active" on every network.

For personal branding it shows social proof from all the public speaking gigs, and links to all your content feeds so that's all that matters.

For a content site that you want people to visit regularly – it fails. Too cluttered, too big, and the lists are too small so people will click through to the content feed they want to consume on and wont come back.

  5. Hey Gary, great episode. Loved that you shared FB being the content awareness infrastructure leader in 2015 and how you shared some strategy around that real-estate question. You mentioned it in a previous episode about looking outside my industry to ones that would be cousins or relevant to mine and looking for ways to create content that could mix them and gather an audience that way and here was something similar, Talking about the tipping point that a bit of emotion from someone reading a story can have them pull the trigger and make a buy decision was a key tip of the day. And to answer your question, I've always been a chugger, been determined and an action taker my whole life. Oh and nice mini hook on the instagram. I just looked you up and followed you

  6. Great definition of hustle and reminders of self-awareness and reverse-engineering!QOTD: GaryVaynerchuk.com is great.  It's intuitively accessible through visuals and a tiny bit of text on each window.  Only 3 columns wide and "Load more" only when I want it.  I'm glad it doesn't have moving pictures or voices coming on when I haven't asked for them.  It guides me to content VERY easily.  My Rotary Club is redesigning its website, so I'm inspired by what you all have done.

  7. That last question with the big fish….bleah…just wanna puke. Why would you limit yourself?!?!? When you have teachers like that, no wonder you end up average, if not failure….
But i did love your answer Gary!!!! Nice episode!!! 😀

  8. Man! It's awesome how you make content easy to digest. Now that I have watched each show one by one, the first ones are very, very rich in content. Until this one that I feel you are starting to repeat yourself. Still, love the value provided! Thanks!

  9. Dear Bridget , I'd love to help you improve your health and wellbeing so you can maintain your breath while you speak. I'm a personal trainer let me know if you're up for it!
