  1. That’s scary for me as this is on my dream equipment list, but not being able to connect to a gimbal is a big no-go for me. I hope @Rp Einstein is right about creating a new F setting? Have you followed up on this, @Deaf Director?

  2. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻 Fully agree with you, it’s a ridiculous situation. My other problem with R5C is that video mode tells me that CFExpress card is full, while there is still more than 40% capacity available…

  3. I hope Canon would listen to this. I know Sony would seriously consider their customers. That’s why, lots of canon shooters move to Sony system recently and I am thinking about it.

  4. this kind of thing has been happeneing with all "smart" devices, not just the camera. cars that have software switch disabled features (cruise control for ex), even though the hardware exists in all car models (as it is cheaper to just produce the same HW config on all, and just use SW to enable/disable depending on how deep one's pockets are!).

  5. This is NOT fixable in firmware. The reason that it doesn't work in video mode is that the camera uses too much power in video mode for the internal batteries, so that is why you need the Canon WFT-R10A, mostly to provide additional power.

  6. Great video! Agree with your frustration. I “upgraded” to the R5c from the R5 and it really feels like a camera cobbled together at the last minute. Compared to the R5, the C’s lesser autofocus, missing bluetooth/wifi, extremely poor battery life, missing IBIS, dim EVF in video mode, slow switching from video to photo, lack of memory presets are so disappointing . The R5’s new firmware has pretty much eliminated the overheating issue making me think I should just sell the C.

  7. I’m super frustrated. This is all just a really bad port. No video on photo mode, scroll wheel doesn’t work, battery life, wifi, & a downgrade In autofocus. 🤦🏾‍♂️. If I could swap for my r5 I would

  8. I test drive this camera when it first came out…. I refused to buy it until they release a firmware update. That cinema OS is a copy and paste OS and wasn’t customized for the camera itself. Here’s hoping because it’s an amazing camera.

  9. I remember hearing that to make the R5C they took an R5 motherboard and a C70 mother board and squeezed it into an R5 body. That’s why it takes so long to switch but it may also be why you need to buy the battery grip. It may be that the Wi-Fi module on the Cinema side is absent and it isn’t comparable with the R5 Wi-Fi module. They may have thought of a “solution” to just charge for a battery grip that does Wi-Fi, which defeats the purpose of a small sized cinema camera.

  10. I was reading the reviews for this grip on B&H and – get this – it apparently splits the battery power so that one battery is only allowed to power the camera and the other can only power the WFT feature?!! So if I'm understanding this right – you'll still have to rig it with an external battery. I mean none of these WFT transfer functions are vital to me but it is very f*cking infuriating none the less.

  11. I've been slowly phasing out my Sony system for a Canon system for commercial work. Now having both the R5 and R5C, the R5C definitely seems like a one trick pony. That is, the 8K60. Don't get me wrong, the exposure tools are nice too, but 8K60 with no record limit is the only practical thing R5C brings over R5, and as others have pointed out it's worse in every other way. What a strange camera.

  12. It is incredible that this is happening. Canon should change this and many other small details with an update. The worst thing is that it seems that they are not interested in the opinion of their customers. I have purchased the RS3 Pro Combo and have not used it yet. It's a jug of cold water for me because now I have an important production in which I will need to use that combination. Is there some kind of platform where we can make a joint claim? It might be a good idea to have a list of the changes we need in the future update.
