Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. We are going to be doing bend a beginner level. Capture the flag from over the wire. One of the first capture the flags that you’ll probably come up. Learning cybersecurity.

So I thought it would be nice to a revisit. It’s been a while since I’ve gone through it. I’m not going to say that I’ve gone through all of it. I haven’t I haven’t gone through all of it. So that’s sort of my personal goal here too.

So let’s go over the instructions and let’s go through the first five levels together. So we’ve got bandit here. The Bandit War game is aimed at absolute beginners. It will teach the basics needed to be able to play other war games. If you notice something essential is missing or you have ideas for new levels, please let us know.

So for us beginners. This game, like most other games, is organized in levels. You start at level zero and you try to beat or finish it. Finishing a level results in information on how to start the next level. The pages on this site for Level X contain information on how to start Level X from the previous level.

So we’ll see that the page from level one has information on how to gain access from level two to level one. All levels in this game have a page on this website and they’re all linked to from the side menu on the left of the page. You’ll encounter many situations in which you have no idea what you’re supposed to do. Don’t panic. Don’t give up.

The purpose of this game is for you to learn the basics. Part of learning the basics is reading a lot of new information. If you never use the command line before. A good first read is introduction to the user commands. We’ll have a little look at that.

So there are several things that you can try when you are unaware of how to continue. First, if you know a command but you don’t know how to use it, try the man page or the manual by entering man and then the command will definitely be doing that. For example, Manls to learn about the LS command for listing contents of directories and information about files. The man and man also has a manual. Try it.

Man and pressure to quit and end to search. I didn’t know that man LS to search. So if I wanted to search, I’m pressing N and then I go up E for down. Would you look at that? When you’re in your man page and you hit Forward slash and you type in a query like all, it’ll highlight all.

I didn’t know that’s. Something you need to learn every day. Second, if there is no manpage, the command might be a shell built in. In that case, use help example help CD or you can usually run like a Help at the end of the command too. So your favorite search engine is your friend.

Learn how to use it. I recommend Google. Lastly, if you are still stuck, you can join us via the chat. So you’re ready to start again with level zero linked on the left of this page. Good luck.

And we just have a note about BM’s if you’re struggling to connect to the levels. Yeah. All right, let’s go over to level zero, see what we’re dealing with. Bandit, level zero. Our level goal, the goal of this level is for you to log into the game using SSH.

The host to which you need to connect to is Bandits Labs over the wire.org on port 2220. Username is banditzerry and the password is also Benefirry. Once you’ve logged in, go to the level one page to find out how to beat level one. So we’ve got an idea of the commands that we are going to need. So we just need one for this.
